Music and Movies

I've recently found myself enjoying jazz music immensely while I do my homework-it's quite a contrast from Rebel Alliance and their ilk, I am aware, but it works for chilling out on rainy afternoons while reading my absurd pile of Mass Comm. homework. This newfound love of jazz has led me to think about how awesome it is to have sound in movies..."The Jazz Singer" the first "talkie," jazz, it kind of works!

Sometimes, though, I worry that we rely too much on sound to drive our narrative pieces-do we care as much about the visual appeal of our films when our dialogue can support our plots? Perhaps this is one of those unanswerable existential questions that people like me enjoy asking when they're bored with doing their homework, but it's an interesting idea, nonetheless.

Also, what do we do when we make something like a music video, where the images support the sound? Do we feel the need to be more precise in our filming, more selective, when we know the story we want to tell and we know we can't use words?

I'm interested in knowing what you all think, so please, by all means, comment on this post! I love knowing what other people think, even if they're just telling me that my ideas are idiotic and that I should be committed...is that weird?

Glad your getting your

Glad your getting your homework done!

What about the role editing plays? Juxtaposition, transition, pan/zoom, sound, effects, pace... With or without words, the intention can be changed...
